How NOT to install #2

Hi there guys,

It’s finally time for another How NOT to install… This lot a photos were taken at a well-known fast food outlet in Pretoria. From the start of the installation there was issues. It was clear that the installers did their absolute best (worst?) to mess up the installation, due to obvious tension between the contractor and supplier, they just happened to be 2 brothers mad at each other…

Immediately evident in the photos are the poor workmanship with regards to the cabling. In the parking area, the conduit was run on top the ground, so it was quickly damaged by vehicles. In the kitchen area, and outer walls, no conduit was used, with wires hanging loose all over the place. Outside, the cable was tied around the palisade to keep it in place, also just hanging around.

At the loading area, 2 cameras were mounted on a corner, with the wires being held together with cut-up flexible conduit and white insulation tape.

Other issues are cameras freezing up completely in the cold rooms, stickers over the camera lenses, and box cameras turned inside their housings.

In the control room things were not looking any better. More than half of the cameras displayed signs of electrical interference. None of the BNC connectors were properly crimped, so much so that a slight tap and wiggle of the wires are needed regularly to bring some cameras back on-screen. The power cabling to the power supplies were also done quite haphazardly, tied together with cable ties. The wallmount cabinet housing the DVR’s could not close at all, due to the giant mess of cables at the back.
