Good day guys…
For the first post, we will be starting what will be a regular feature of this blog: How NOT to install!!
This will feature photos from various sites we’ve been called out to, either by the end-user or the installers who have taken over the site (as is the case with this site), or in rare cases, the actual installer, who just can’t figure out why nothing is working properly.
The following photos were taken on a site in the North-West, the system comprising IP and analog cameras with IP encoders. The installer was complaining about very laggy images, cameras disconnecting of missing etc.
Turns out though the problem was with the installation, mainly regarding the installation of the cabling. Some of the cable runs were measured at 160metres, which is a big no-no for anything IP related. Also, the way the cables was installed also attributed to the problems, ie. running next to power cables, being clamped in a window, network cables being joined, indoor cable used outside in the sun, the list goes on.
The site was sorted out though with a new installer assigned to the job. He promptly split the long run up with a switch to boost the signal, and moved some of the cameras over to a high-bandwidth wireless link. So far the site has been running without any issues.
