The value of color in surveillance cannot be understated. The ability to see the color of an intruder’s outfit or certain vehicle during both day and night can make all the difference between a useful and a marginal security system.
Standard IR (infra-red) cameras does not produce color images at night, only grayscale. While you will be able to see what’s going on, the footage won’t be of too much use. Was the guy wearing a blue or yellow jacket? Was the car blue or white? The answer to these questions can mean the difference between a perpetrator getting away or getting caught.

Hikvision’s ColorVu technology allows cameras to capture vivid color footage, both day and night, without the need for excessive supplemental lighting. This is made possible with the use of sensitive sensors and advanced lenses.
ColorVu lenses uses unconventionally large apertures (F1.0) to allow the largest possible amount of light in. Conventional CCTV cameras mostly use an aperture of F2.0, which only lets through a quarter of the light that a F1.0 aperture allows. Also, the lenses feature an anti-reflective coating, whilst being made of Extra-low Dispersion optical glass, both of these features work to reproduce an image’s sharpness and color definition.

The high-sensitivity sensors are designed to make maximum use of the available light, enabling the camera to produce natural color, even in dark locations.
Lastly, ColorVu cameras feature supplemental lighting to deliver balanced, rich colors and realistic picture rendering.
